Alexandria Police Department Chief Mike Ward has just announced the death of officer James “Stumpy” Sticklen, a school resource officer at Campbell County Middle School who was beloved by many students, teachers and staff.

Here is the announcement from Ward:

It is with deep regret that announcement is made of the death of Officer James “Stumpy” Sticklen, who lost his life while on duty and participating in training.  Officer Sticklen collapsed from a medical emergency and was transported to the Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin, Kentucky where they worked feverishly to save his life.

On behalf of the Alexandria Police Department, our Officers, Staff, the Employees and Elected Officials of the City of Alexandria, we extend our deepest sympathy, thoughts and prayers to Jim’s wife and children.

Officer Sticklen has been with the Alexandria Police Department since 1992 and spent the last 9 years assigned as our School Resource Officer serving the Campbell County School District, Bishop Brossart High School and St. Mary Grade School.  He has had a profound effect on the lives of thousands of students during his tenure.

Arrangements are pending.  Lt. George Schreiner will be our point of contact for any further information.  He may be reached at 859.635.4126 or via email gschreiner@alexandriaky.org

My God Bless You Stumpy and Keep You.
