Vote on smoking prompts Campbell County to put TV in lobby

As reported by Chris Mayhew on Campbell County Connects we think you best get there early to get inside the meeting room.

We think that all of the outside crusaders will pack the room and the concerned citizens of the county will be relegated to watching the proceedings on TV in the lobby.

This also begs the question; why was such a small meeting room designed into the new and expensive administration building?

A television set will be on in the lobby of Campbell County’s administration building in Newport Wednesday, Feb. 16 , to accommodate crowds trying to see what’s happening as the Fiscal Court meets and decides on an ordinance to repeal a law passed in December 2010 banning smoking indoors.

Located inside the Fiscal Court chambers, 1098 Monmouth St., Newport, the time for the Feb. 16 meeting has also been moved to 7 p.m. in deference allowing ample opportunity for the public to attend rather than the standard 5:30 p.m. meeting time.

Firefighters will also be on hand Feb. 16, to ensure the audience in the Fiscal Court chambers does not exceed the fire code limits on people allowed to be in the room at one time.

At the Jan. 19 Fiscal Court meeting in Newport, firefighters blocked the door to the meeting room chambers until a person left the room before allowing another person in as a crowd of about 20 additional people sought entry into the room.
